Applicants must be at least 18 years old and less than 40 years at time of hire.
Per Indiana law, special exceptions are in place for Veterans of the armed forces
who served at least 20 years and, who have otherwise passed all the testing
requirements for any applicant, including the physical agility test. The age limit
must be waived to 40 years and 6 months for them: PERF is required to accept
Veterans that successfully complete the process.

Our Testing process includes:
o Written Examination (waived with proof of college degree or paramedic license)
o Swim Test
o Aerial Ladder Climb
o Oral Interview


Applicants that successfully complete above requirements with an overall
70% score are ranked on a hiring list

o Must have valid (less than 1 year old) CPAT card by date of hire (need more info on the CPAT test? Click Here)
o Must be minimum Indiana Certified Emergency Medical Technician or able to
obtain reciprocity by date of hire
o Must be able to pass the Indiana Public Emergency Retirement Fund physical


Resume Boosters
o Indiana Certified Emergency Paramedic
o Firefighter I/II Certification
o Completion of the District 1 Career Academy
o Previous Fire Service and/or EMS Experience
o Military Experience
